Waking Herbs is extremely excited to be behind a fantastic new project to transform a rural school into a quality centre of education within the local community of Saloya, Ecuador!
Living in one of the most biodiverse places on earth, children in rural areas of Ecuador are struggling to have their needs met by the state-run education offered by the local government.
The education system currently established within rural Ecuador offers inadequate methods of instruction and imposes inherent difficulties in implementing innovations necessary to improve the quality of education. This creates a distinct and considerable inequality between children in rural and urban communities.
The rural school in Saloya is located in the Chocó Andino Biosphere Reserve in Ecuador. The Rio Saloya School Project proposes a radical change for environmental and social justice in the rural public school system. We believe that all children deserve a quality education!
The bigger picture is that by providing better education and transforming the school itself, the project will positively impact the whole community; creating better opportunities for all, eradicating violence against children, becoming a reference and inspiration for nature-based education throughout the region and working towards a better society.
We want to transform the educational space of the school so that the forest and the school are complementary learning spaces.
We at Waking Herbs feel strongly that we have a responsible role on this earth and that we must connect and grow with the communities in which we live. This project is part of the work that we are doing towards fulfilling our social responsibility, alongside reforestation and nature protection projects.
